Mark Williams, Ph.D., Founder and CEO Mark has been creating digital learning applications for more than 20 years. Before starting Modality in early 2006, Mark founded Pyramis Studios, a biomedical media communications group, where he served as president and creative director. He authored and led the development of the Sylvius project, a popular suite of software applications for teaching the structure of the human brain. He also spearheaded the development of award-winning web design and animation for major universities and pharmaceutical companies. Mark is an adjunct research scientist in the Department of Neurobiology at Duke University Medical Center and is an author, editor and illustrator of the leading neurobiology textbook. Mark is a graduate of Davidson College and has an M.Phil and Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Yale University. When he's not changing the face of mobile learning at Modality, he can be found running marathons, adding music to his ever-expanding collection, and spending time with his family on the farm. Nate O'Keefe, Co-founder and Director of Publishing Nate oversees all aspects of Modality's product development and distribution, including content acquisition, production, retail and online sales, marketing, and CRM. Nate is an experienced software development and interactive media project manager. Prior to joining Modality, he worked at Pyramis Studios, ensuring rapid and systematic deployment of technology. Previously, he worked in the Peabody School of Education at Vanderbilt University, administering public-sector web/computer-based training programs. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in English. When not putting cool stuff on iPods, Nate continues his quest for Durham's perfect $5 lunch. Suggestions welcomed. Robert Pleasants, Ph.D., Director of Education Bob leads Modality's education business development activities, including content selection and institutional sales and partnerships. He participates in product design and QA to ensure the educational quality of each Raybook. Bob is a former public school teacher, coordinator of educational programs at Duke University, and anti-violence community educator. He has a BA in English, a Master's in Teaching English, and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. When he's not making small screens smarter, he's teaching, cooking for his wife, reading, running with Mark, or begging Nate to teach him how to homebrew.
